English: Painting of a feast / Early Christian catacomb of San Callisto (Saint Calixte Catacomb) / 3rd century / Paleochristian art.
Deutsch: Die Eucharistie wurde bei den frühen Christen in ihren Grabstätten meist als die wundersame Vermehrung der Brote und Fische symbolisiert (Joh. 6, 1-15), bei der Jesus seinen Leib verhiess (Joh. 6, 22-59). Stets sitzen sieben (d.h. zum Heil berufene) Personen um einen Tisch. Auf dem Tisch stehen zwei oder drei Platten mit Broten und Fischen, und am Boden Brotkörbe.
